MPH FEATURING TOP GEAR LIVE WITH JEREMY CLARKSON AND RICHARD HAMMOND BACK IN SA - South Africa 29 Jan to 1 Feb 2009

COMPUTICKET BOOKINGS NOW OPEN!

Break-dancing London icons and a Hollywood-style monster are just two of the features that will take centre stage in the all-new MPH featuring Top Gear Live theatre show powered by BP Ultimate. The new show is set to wow motoring fans across South Africa and premium tickets for the show are open for booking today through Computicket.

Paul Edmunds, show director commented “Fans need to book as soon as possible as we expect the show to sell out quickly. There is an extensive database campaign being implemented to previous ticket holders. The show was sold out in London, Birmingham and Dublin within hours of opening, and last year over 1500 cars had to be turned away due to the show being sold out locally”.

Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond, joined by well known 5fm DJ and motoring enthusiast Sasha Martinengo, plus members of the Top Gear production team will bring to life elements of the TV show as a live motoring theatre experience to be held at The Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg from the 29th of January to the 1st of February 2009. The live motoring performance lasting a breathtaking hour and a half, will incorporate the drama of theatre and film with the thrills and spills of stunts and special effects, taking both cars and drivers to their limit.

The Top Gear Live theatre show will comprise up to 16 different scenes or sequences. The Top Gear presenters will play host and in the spirit of the ‘ambitious but not always successful’ Top Gear style, will undertake a number of activities to amuse and entertain visitors.

Other scenes will feature breath-taking stunts and driving sequences from some of the world’s best precision drivers plus live versions of regular formats of the Top Gear programme. A taste of what you can expect includes:

The Top Gear Lap
Every visitor to the show will get a chance to set a time around the Top Gear test track, live in the arena. With commentary from Clarkson and the support of 5,000 fellow audience members each performance, how far up the virtual Top Gear Live lap board can the audience get? Can Johannesburg keep its best time above London?

The Cool Wall
Ever found yourself shouting at the TV when Clarkson lays into a car you love? Ever wished you could agree with Hammond championing the Porsche 911, or try and have the Aston DB9 removed from the Sub Zero section of the cool wall? At this year’s Top Gear Live the voice of the people will be heard as the audience debate with the presenters who’s makes it on to The Cool Wall.

Swampy
Not much is known about the creature codenamed ‘Swampy’. Some say he is a government accident, a terrible creation born in a secret military weapons lab. All we know is that if rumour is true, and ‘Swampy’ has found his way into the city, we know of only one man/thing who could stop it; The STIG.

MPH featuring Top Gear Live kicked off in the UK in London and Birmingham and has plans to be rolled out in up to 15 countries around the world within the next 12 months.

Dublin, Johannesburg, Sydney, Auckland and Hong Kong are all confirmed venues to host the new show. Top Gear Live will be an annual event with more countries added to the bill each year. MPH featuring Top Gear Live tour aims to visit 30 cities annually by 2012.

The theatre extravaganza will show to packed houses at arena venues in each host city. Each leg of the tour consists of 10 shows – meaning that Top Gear Live will be seen more than 100 times throughout the duration of tour. More than 300,000 visitors from around the globe will experience the excitement and drama of the world’s most famous motoring brand – first hand.
